About

About Mako Partners.

Mako Partners was established by four finance professionals with backgrounds in bank lending, credit and broking. Each had seen clients treated as transactions and placed with lenders without a strategy. Mako Partners was founded to do that work properly.

Background

Experience on both sides of the lending desk.

Between them, the directors have written credit at major lenders, led underwriting teams, run national sales operations and managed vendor finance programs. That experience informs funding structures that account for how each decision will affect the business over time, not only the purchase in front of it.

Mako Partners acts for clients in transport, construction, civil, mining, agriculture and manufacturing, funding single assets through to national fleets. Where appropriate, it lends from its own capital.

Leadership

Our directors.

Jordan Steinberg

Jordan Steinberg

Jordan began his career in the credit team of a major equipment financier, assessing the same kinds of transactions Mako now arranges, before moving to one of Australia’s largest finance brokerages. Having worked on the lender’s side of the desk, he knows what a credit analyst needs to see and where applications fall down. He remains a hands-on broker and writes deals every day.

Logan Wiggins

Logan Wiggins

Logan built and led a team of more than 20 brokers before co-founding Mako. He has spent his career close to operators and dealers, and understands how a purchase comes together on site and in the showroom, not just on paper. Clients and vendors deal with him directly, and he still writes deals every day.

Tom Buckland

Tom Buckland

Tom trained in accounting and business advisory before moving into lending, and has worked in both banking and broking. He reads a set of financials the way a credit analyst does, which shapes how Mako assesses a business and presents it to a lender. He also works directly with clients on their transactions.

Will Gentle

Will Gentle

Will came to broking from banking, with roles at the Commonwealth Bank and Westpac. He has worked on both sides of the lending relationship and has built Mako’s network of dealer, vendor and lender partnerships, which is how many clients first come to Mako Partners.

Approach

Principles.

  • Strategy before structure

The business and its plans come first, and the facility is selected to suit them. The product is never the starting point.

  • Transparency

Clients are told how Mako Partners works, which lenders are used and why a particular structure is recommended, including when it is not the easiest option.

  • Long-term relationships

Mako Partners expects to act for clients over many years and many purchases, and structures each facility with the next one in mind.

  • Continuous improvement

Products, processes and lender relationships are reviewed regularly and changed where there is a better way.
